A Paleo lance tip--based on the lateral edge/ basal edge grinding a Clovis, made from Harrodsburg Fossil Chert. The red oxides brought out by fire, not intentionally heat treated, but likely a stone that ringed a campfire was the source of the fossil chert--heat made it easier to knapp the piece into a Clovis. One auricle was lost in usage, some tip damage also from use--and likely slight ancient salvage. No matter how many times I spin the piece I still can't say for certain if a fluting attempt was made, and at barely over 1/8" thick at the base, the natural fracture of the fossil chert, a flute wouldn't have been practical--the piece would have shattered. Note how the basal edge was slightly 'flattened' (if that's the correct word) to prep for a flute strike--then ground smooth when that thought was abandoned. The hunter made the piece work for their needs, but being no more than 3/16" at the center you wouldn't think this lance tip would have been too practical--too thin, too fragile. Length of the Lexington, Kentucky, area point is 2"x1", good patina, real. Shipping is $8.00 with checks or M.O.s welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
