At 3&9/16" by 1&5/16", 3/8" thickness, this Midwest Benton is one well made artifact--great patination to the chert--and on 'chert identification' I'm still switching between a Buffalo River and a 'tan chert' so much seen through western Kentucky--the reds in the material have a heat-treated look. Mid Archaic Culture in origin, there is some basal edge grinding--or possibly that is only use wear, the piece obviously had quite a few sharpen-and-use cycles. Sharpening is the four-sided Mid Archaic (6500BP) technique--not on the very tip the heavy sharpening action made the tip that "S" twist you only see on points that've gone through quite a number of edge touch ups; the edge flaking is almost all pressure chipping, the ancient hunter did work as skilled as most Early Archaic knappers--give him credit, he was skilled. Every detail is guaranteed authentic, period. Shipping is $8.00, checks or M.O>s are the payment forms I use. Sorry, I do not take paypal-type services--Roy A.
