Price includes the shipping on this Lost Lake out of Jefferson County, S.E. Illinois--white flint, but a very glossy form of white flint I've heard called "White Kaolin", not a Burlington chert, that is, but probably geologically related. The difference between the two flints is that this one is naturally very glossy, high silicate, it didn't need heat treating to get that texture--and it doesn't have the iron oxide 'reds' of heat treated flint. Length is slightly under 1&3/4" by 1&5/16", sharpened more times than even a Greg Perino could have counted--which accounts for the steep bevels, the slightly over 5/16" center thickness. The blade is mineralized with age, the basal edge is heavily ground--except for the plow-made ding on a basal corner--there, you can see the patination contrast, very white freshly exposed flint, the weathered surface around the fresh chip. One minor note: there is no dirt in that fresh chip so it could well have been 'handling damage' before the piece came into my collection--odd place for one small chip to be, but "it happens" (to quote some move). I welcome checks or M.O.s but do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
