Since I put the piece in my collection I've been trying to figure out the purpose of that side tang--did the blade keep moving in it's handle, enough so that the Woodland hunter carved an extra notch to wrap the knife tighter? That'd make sense, it's not a shaft scraper, you can see some finer pressure chipped flakes off what's practically a 'side notch'--neat feature. The Waubesa is made of a heat treated Burlington/ Crescent Quarry Chert,2&9/16" by 1&5/16". There is a thicker (3/8") measurement in the center of the hafting area--could be that little bit of a 'stack' was why the side notch was made. I tried for a closeup of the tip where there is a small impact fracture--less than 1/8" was chipped off in usage. Patina is everywhere, every detail is guaranteed authentic. Shipping is by USPS minimum cost of $7.00--yeah, no cheap shipping through the P.O. these days, lol. I welcome checks, cash, or M.O.s, but do not use paypal-type services--Roy a.
