The Hopewell started 'point making' with a North Blade--not exactly round, but pre-fashioned at one of their 'lithic station' workshop somewhere near the flint quarry (it's a LOT easier to paddle a dugout home with pre-made blades than carting a ton of flint nodules, you'll agree)--that's what they did. the places they--and the Adena as well--camped along waterways like the Ohio River you'll find the hundreds of cast-off flakes that pared-down the weight of a North Blade like this one--Sonora Flint--2&3/16" by 1&13/16"--they were fighting a 'stack' so the thickness of this North Blade is almost 5/8". The two heat-treated Burlington Chert Snyders points show different degrees of use (one is snap base)--a usable point, even with a snapped-off stem, hey, it wasn't going to waste, they would have kept up the modifications until the piece was no more than a hafted scraper--flint--the acquisition, took too much trouble to get more. These measure 2" and 1&11/16" respectively. In the later part of the Hopewell period you see points like the Bakers Creek/ Lowe point,2&5/16" and 1&15/16" on the heavily salvaged stemmed type. These are what that culture made, what they used (to death, sometimes)--they're real. Shipping is $9.00, payment can be by check or money order, but I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
