From a Montgomery or Bond County, Illinois, collection, a hornstone Graham Cave that because of the flint it's made from I have a feeling is a Kentucky piece, not an Illinois find. The unfortunate part of buying estate items, you often have to decide "Is that flint found here?" If it isn't, then it's geo locating the type flint--where that flint is native; in this case-- Kentucky--the guy (betting dollars to donuts) bought the Graham Cave from a Kentucky dealer. Just my guess, but I bet Gary Noel would recognize the piece, lol, it's the kind of flint he likes to handle. Under a 30x loop every detail is patinated, correct--there are no white hinge fractures--which there shouldn't be on a 7500BP point--there also is nothing that shows modern damage. Some traces of old 'hold-it-in-place' glue show on the more flattened face--tells me how the point was once displayed--regarding the old 'collectors I.D. number', I'd have no way to know what it stands for. Basal grinding is very good, but not more than dulling on the outer edges of the stem. Length is 2&13/16" by 1", a thickness that barely goes over the 1/4" mark on my caliper (in the hafting area). Use polish shows, but no dulling., on the tip--the tip may have served as a burin with it's very sharp point. Summary: REAL, in every detail.
