A Warrick County, Indiana, Mid Archaic stemmed point (no basal grinding, so that tells you a great deal about the timeperiod the piece is from)--if it isn't Benton Culture, I'd be real, real surprised, the blade width, the lack of basal grinding, but yet the very high knapping skill shown, I read all those as Benton. The type Indiana Harrison County Hornstone shows multiple bands of lighter color, the 6500BP knapper working the preform so the bands all run side-to-side. Length is just under 2&1/2" by 1&3/16", yet very thin, only 1/4" max thickness. Somehow in usage an impact fracture sheared one blade edge, a very thin edge fracture that runs from barb end up to within 1/2" of the tip--interesting how that must have happened, that's not a common type damage to a hafted knife. Tip is intact, but I would say both corners of the stem had minor use wear (tiny end chips)--photos should show everything I'm describing, but I prefer to mention ANY damage up-front, you know the exact condition, you know the piece is lifetime guaranteed authentic. The finder lived and hunted Warrick County, Indiana--this point from his collection has been in MY collection a dozen years. I welcome checks (or cash) and money orders, but I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
