The point is out of a Bond County, Illinois, collection, but it came without the provenance tags you hope to find attached--was it found there in south-central Illinois, or did the collector buy the piece--the flint, not exactly a hornstone but similar to hornstone looks more like a Tennessee or Alabama material--the fellow's collection had a number of Kentucky buys as well--I think he bought it from out-of-state. When you don't get the provenance you go on what you DO see: Dalton flaking, some, but not a lot of lateral edge grinding, same type of lighter grinding in the auriculate base. The one face shows a light flute channel--the reverse only a thinning flake. The tip has a thin fracture plane, a tiny exfoliated flake on the very tip. Length is very slightly under 2.5", width is slightly under 1", max thickness barely goes over .25". The flaking style, that's where one look simply says "Dalton"..as does the patina. Shipping is $8.00 with checks or M.O.s the ways to buy the piece. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
