I'm going out on the proverbial limb and calling this Full Groove Axe a granite--admittedly a different granite than I've seen before (need to study my river rock, see if I can find some raw cobble that matches). The small black speckles of what (to me) looks like Phenocrysts give the stone a different look. Those black flecks, though, they might well be what attracted a toolmaker something like 7500 years ago--you're intending to make an axe, you spend hours on a rockbar along the Ohio River searching for just that one right piece or hardstone--lots of quartzite, lots of granite to choose from, but this speckled piece...well, yo get the idea, every tool maker wants their product to reflect their skill. Length was considerably shortened to only 2&11/16"--that bit area undoubtedly once being much longer, by 2&1/2". Measured on the heel the max thickness is 1&7/16". Its modern history--safe to say plows rolled the piece around in a cornfield--no use apologizing, this (the plow scratches) are as much a part of the provenance as the heavily used bit--note that the ancient user reworked a corner ding on the bit--it's real, period. Shipping is included with the price--checks or M.O>s are welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal--Roy A.
