Can't resist..."way down in Kokomo" is the history I was given some twenty-five years back when I added this Clovis to my collection. The flint (chert) is Indiana Harrodsburg Fossil Chert, 2&3/16" by 1&1/8" wide. The tip area (5/16" thick) was used as a scraper function--there was a tip chip right on a hard inclusion in the chert--a stack--see the diagonal line crossing the blade-- the Paleo Clovis hunter decided using the blade length he had would work better (as a knife/ scraper) than sharpening the length down even more. Shortened somewhat, what was left would have been a dart--using the lance tip as a scraper made more sense, it'd seem--and the longer blade edges worked still worked as a knife. Give him credit, he made the tool he had work for him. One face is fluted up to the harder silicate inclusion in the chert--the reverse face has multiple interline thinning flakes.
