If this Gibson County, Indiana, hornstone knife was a Cobbs Knife (Early archaic) it received a different sharpening technique that was "the usual"--that is, the edges are four-sided (Quadra-Facial sharpening)--Cobbs are considered to be bevel sharpened, at least that's how the makers of both Dovetail points and Lost Lake knappers made them. This point is done with that four-sided technique more like Kirks and Harpeth River Points were made--if you saw a Harpeth River stem (base) on this 2&15/16" blade I don't think anyone would be surprised---too, the almost 1" width is 'right' for a Harpeth river. The point was found along the Wabash River, so was it a 'stray' from Kentucky (or something traded up the river valley)--that'd be my guess. The point was part of an old farmers' collection, it's provenance will be given to the next owner--I believe in passing along the history on what's in my collection.
