From the lifetime collection of a 91 year old Illinois field hunter, but did he find or buy this Hornstone point? The closest I've come is identifying it as a Copena, but those are not thought of as southeast Illinois point forms--I'll add it was the only piece of its type in his collection--at least that I saw in the estate sale. Length is 2&11/16" by 1&1/4", a STRONG medial ridge on one face that reaches 3/8" thickness. If my photos provide enough clarity, check out the flaking, see if you agree with the "Copena" classification. One more note here--some flakes off the basal edge on one side of the auriculate edge bother me--that is patina is different, darker, done at a different time from when the point was made and used--is that my "smoking gun" that the elderly man purchased the point, got taken? Patina changes (color) I can't explain, hey, I won't be selling the piece unless it's for restoration--sell a fake, lose both a customer and a friend. Ain't worth it, lol. Best to all for a good weekend--Roy A.
