The family collection was gathered in Perry and Spencer Counties, S.W. Indiana--which county produced this 2" by 1&1/2" Indiana Hornstone Decatur, that info went to the grave of the last owner. You look at the shape of the blade and you know it's a Decatur, though--flaking style (Early Archaic-type chipping) and Decatur blade shape. When the damage occurred, some 7500BP the knapper cut deep into the center of the base--notched-it in effect so a new handle could fit. The base now resembles one of those 'exotic' forms of Big Sandy points, the "Contracted Base" types--the blade, though, isn't shaped like a Big Sandy Culture blade. Note the thinning flake on the one face, from basal center almost to the tip--on a semi curve. That's the longest basal thinning flake I think I've come across. An interesting piece, 100% guaranteed authentic. Shipping is $9.00 (to keep up with USPS rates/ zone charges). I welcome checks or money orders, but do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
