Ten points & chert knives from a farm collection in St. Claire County, Illinois, points that were used, modified by their village knapper, used until lost--in short, simply as real is they can be, The white Burlington Chert is the dominant lithic for that area, but there is an Adena of Hornstone, and an expanded-stem point that I'm somewhat sure is Kaolin Chert (banded in alternating colors). Note the flattened-off tip to that point--they found a 'subsequent use' that resulted in super heavy work polish on the tip--similar to a Hafted Scraper, but without the beveled tip. If you can figure out its use, you're one step ahead (of my 'best guess')--length is 2&1/2". The longest point, a Smith or an Etley--something Middle-to-Late Archaic Period (4000--5000 BP), has an ancient impact fractured tip, but is still 3&1/2". A farming-made ding on a barb is a modern bit of damage, the patina contrast a two year old could pick out---good place to study patination.
