The finder of this Burlington Chert Adena Vanishing Base hunted the area of the confluence of the Mississippi River with both the Missouri and over in Illinois, the Illinois River. That area, the double-confluence, it had about as heavy a concentration of ancient settlements as any spot in the country. Which site (or which of the two states) did he find the 3&7/8" Adena--well, you now have what provenance I have. As a large knife, the Adena (1&5/16" wide by only 3/8" thick) was a strong, strong tool--the sort of 'truncated stem' had the edges ground to avoid abrading the sinew used to wrap the knife to its handle. Nice chert knife, guaranteed authentic in every detail. Shipping is $8.00 (yeah, post office rates gripe me too), and payment can be by check, cash, or money order. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
