Out of a Jackson County, Illinois, collection, either found in Jackson or Union County (where the finder grew up). Small for a plummet, but either made 1&1/4" by 3/4" on purpose, or possibly salvaged from a longer Plummet--patina is there, every detail is anciently weathered Hematite from the Mid-to-Late Archaic culture that made the piece. The finders' name and what other small bits of provenance I collected will go to the next owner, the history matters--wish I knew the site the man was hunting, but even if I did it's likely no longer there (old story there for most of us, sites get built-over). Now--one fact up-front: this Plummet sits on my computer monitor stand, that's its "display home"--if it's still here twenty years from now (assuming I am), no problem by me. Shipping is $8.00, checks or M.O>s are the only two ways to pay for the piece as I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
