This extremely well-made Eskimo Fossil Bone Harpoon Head was found on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska. This is an almost perfect example of the type. These were mounted on spears with a line tied through the slot in the detachable harpoon head for retrieval. Once the spear had driven the head into a fish or seal, the head would detach and the hunter could pull the fish or seal in with the line and not risk losing the valuable wooden spear shaft. Found on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska.
