Not a great deal of basal edge grinding, so this may be more of a Mid Archaic re-invention of the Early Archaic Big Sandy points--I'll stick with Big Sandy focusing on the very straight-across base, Godars and other types from the Mid Archaic having more of an auriculate base--same for Graham Cave points from the Early Archaic. The piece was found along the Ohio River near Paducah, Kentucky--ask which side of the river that collector was working that day, well, he didn't mark the piece--flint and patina are 'right', it's real. Length is close to 2" (very slightly under) by 1&1/16"--5/16" at the thickest part of the medial ridge. One note: the base is extra, extra thin, almost fluted when you consider the flake scars on the 'front'. When I see a flute on a point this deep I have to consider if it was a 'later culture rework' of a MUCH earlier cultural point--sometimes all any of us can do is guess--as-is, it's a guaranteed authentic side notch point. Shipping is $8.00--sorry, USPS charges that for even the lightest box I can send out anymore. I welcome checks, cash, or M.O.s, but do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
