The Axe is the Mid Archaic three-quarter groove style that was used in the Wabash and Edwards County, Illinois 6500BP village sites of "Benton Culture" Peoples-- and likely in some other (related) point-style-makers in the Wabash Valley. The finders' collection was strong on stone tool;, he had more luck walking fields for Axes and Celts that some 99% of collectors. He found whole axes, even if they had a few plow scratches (as this one does)--most of us are lucky to find part of a broken axe...if at all. The material on this 3/4 Groove is glacial cobble granite--courtesy of Canada, it measures an excellent 4&5/8" by 2&1/2", 1&3/4" max width on the front 'ridge'. The bit, while it shows ancient usage, is basically intact. One side note: when you see a 'perfect bit', you better ask for a guarantee--most axes and celts show usage. As with any artifact, there are exceptions, I've seen field-found axes, or celts found along rivers--made, lost in sand, and buried for a couple thousand years until flooding washed them out of the highwall they were buried in. Those mentioned, excavated or surfaced by erosion, they came out of the ground, that's why they show so little wear. To wrap up, shipping is $14, checks or M.O>s (or cash) are the welcomed payments I take. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
