The basal portion turned up in 1984...and I've been waiting (each year) for the next section to be turned up by the plows...struck out again yesterday. Strangest thing, though, as I approached the small spot in my home fields I 'felt' like I was almost on top of the tip--you know that sensation, like what you're so-long-searching for is right at your feet??? Nothing but corn chaff on the surface between the rows of the freshly planted (6") corn. Maybe next year. I've been saying that for a lot of years now, though, The Clovis portion you see is 3&3/8" by 1&5/16"--it BARELY crosses 1/4" on my caliper. There is one tiny fragment of flint that was found next to the basal segment, but it doesn't fit, no matter how I position it, so I know the rest is there...somewhere.
I've offered the farmer cash to deep plow that quarter acre, but he says his crop program won't let him deep plow, the surface has to have old crop residue. So, each year, after the crops are up, the surface has one good rain, I try again. So, no luck this Spring, I'll try again next year... Roy A.
