When you see the polish on the leading edge flakes you know a flint tool has seen plenty of use--and Kaolin Flint, both Hopewell and Mississippian Cultures favored this S.W. Illinois flint for color and gloss (once used for a period of time--some Kaolin Celts, they polished (by grinding) the bit to a very high gloss--sometimes, they did so with the entire Celt--those are works of art if you google them. This particular Chisel is right under 4&1/2" by 1&7/16" and a 3/4" max thickness along the medial ridge. The 'heel' ("poll" end, some call the the heel) is also polished to a degree. The piece comes out of a Bond County, IL, collection, but not tagged for that west-central county--could have been found there, or bought, but patina does say every detail is real. That's fact. Shipping is $8.00, checks or M.O>s are how I welcome payments. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type services--Roy A.
