A Sangamon County, Illinois, Adena made from a well fired Burlington Chert--the iron oxides ''pop" (appear) when Burlington was buried under a layer of ash-clay-- and wood, then heated for hours. The raw white flint took on a gloss and a 'knappability' that raw chert didn't have--like forging a steel knife. This Adena measures nearly 2&5/8" by 1&1/4", but never quite makes it to 3/8" max thickness. The stem edges may have very slight dulling--not enough that I'd call the stem 'ground'--just dulled. There is no obvious damage to mention, although I think the Adena hunter had a 'stack' in the flint at one shoulder that caused some knapping difficulty. Nice point, REAL. Shipping is $7.00 with checks, cash, or M.O>s welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal-type payment forms--Roy A.
