Shipping comes with the list price, you pay nothing additional on this S.W. Indiana (Vanderburgh or Posey County, Indiana) flint "tool"--it's more of a chisel, I'd think as both faces are medial ridged. If this was an Adz one face would be mostly flat, and that isn't the case. What makes placing a 'definite label' on is that one end has a 'steeper bit' and the opposite end has extremely heavy use polish. Did that mean the piece wasn't hafted, it was hand-held, and the ground edge was to protect the users' hand? Or, was the piece hafted and a lot of work polish built up? That small notch (indention) on edge would make me thing this was a hafted tool, it once had a handle, something attached right in the center. The chert is in the same category as Illinois Mill Creek Chert--close enough that I'd expect this was a Mississippian cultural artifact, those Mississippians being the most consistent users of Mill Creek material--slightly over 3&3/4" by 1&9/16", 11/16" thickness in the center. GREAT patination. I welcome checks or M.O>s, but do not use paypal--Roy A.
