A Warrick County,S.W. Indiana, find, right on 3" of fossil (Harrodsburg) Chert. Width is 1&7/16" with a nearly 3/8" medial ridge in the hafting area--thins considerably toward the rounded tip. There was some Erly Archaic Culture salvage to the corner of the base and the barb above that corner--not sure the spots qualify as 'damage' when they were ancient 'adjustments' due to heavy use. Note on the intact barb a tiny notch-in was made to give a tighter 'wrap' to the sinew used to haft the knife blade. One other interesting feature is that there was almost no basal grinding--VERY unusual for an Early Archaic culture point to have no basal grinding--and I have no explanation to offer--it isn't as though the entire base need to be reconstructed due to damage, the original shape of the 'dovetail' base is there. The flaking, the patination of the flint, every detail is lifetime guaranteed real, but, when the blade edges show use, why no edge grinding? Maybe someone has an answer, email me if you've come across a dove where this is the case. Shipping is $6.00 with checks or M.O>s welcomed. Sorry, I do not use paypal, though--Roy A.
